Is there any way to back up Windows server 2008 ?

I want to know if there is any way to back up my operating system so that if my server dies, when I get a new one, I won't have to buy a new license. Or can I just reinstall on another computer using the same license key after my old one dies?

first of all most servers just don't completely die. Most of the time you will have a minor hardware failure. but this will not render the server inoperable do to built in redundancy. but to get to your question, it depends on what license you have. If it is an oem (most likely) then no you will not be able to use that key on a new platform. If it is a corporate yes you will be able to use the new key on the new platform. As far as the back up you can you microsoft backup that is built in and back it to a usb or tape drive.
