time server ports
Bit Torrent question (the opening of the port of the router and the server tracker)?
This is my first time using bit torrent. I am using the utorrent program but my download is crazy slow. I'm trying to open the port on my router but I can not find out how. I have a Westell DSL router at BellSouth. It says I need my IP address, but the IP address I got from my router info is not recognized by my internet when I try to go to it. I have a McAfee firewall and shut it down, but still can not configure my router port or my download speed up. I read the online help, but is a bit confusing. I also read that you should get a tracker server, which does not come with the software utorrent or have to go elswhere for that? If I do are there any suggestions for a good encyclopedia? Anyon can break it down for me?
First, I believe the Westell DSL modem only and not a router. If my assumption is correct, only one single Ethernet connection for your computer. If is only a modem, is unlikely to be the source of your problem with Bit Torrent. Secondly, do you have an IP address that you gave when you registered for DSL? Can I connect to the Internet to all? If you can not connect to the Internet, it is necessary to solve this problem before working on downloading torrents. Finally, it did not need a tracker - a tracker is what link to download the torrent. Torrent software (eg utorrent) will do for you as part of the process discharge.
