What is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and what does it do?

I have a 2005 Dell Dimension PC and I'm trying to get rid of unused programs to free up space on my hard drive. I have four seperate SQL Server programs hording over 500MB of space. According to Windows Add/Remove Programs, I rarely use any of these programs. I just want to know if they are a Windows essential item or is it something for administrators, etc.
Programs:
MS SQL Server 2005
MS SQL Server Native Client
MS SQL Server Setup Support Files
MS SQL Server VSS Writer

Some other things to note:
I have a shared Home Network (2 routers for one cable modem).
I use MS Office Professional 2007 and MS Money 2008.
I have a KVM switch for two PCs.

not sure how you have sql server on your machine and don't know what it is. it is essentially a database program and addon's from microsoft. it is not required to run windows but you can do a lot of interesting things with it. before you dump it check it out
