What is the main difference between the server and the computer case?
I recently purchased an HP computer with Vista. I used to register the award with XP and none of my audio equipment will function properly with Vista, so that plan to build a computer for recording (with XP Pro 64 bit). I wish it was a kit mounting rack so you can mount it with other If gear.Most professional audio I think, are cases of server rack. Can I use one for the server as a standard desk top unit?
Yes, you could probably get away with doing it this way. Most rack mount servers are the only equipment of high power, so it could not be to use the machine at full capacity. But you could also find ways to use all that extra power for something. Of course, you want to make sure it is appropriate to your rack. I am not sure if a rack of audio components has the same dimensions as a rack of servers.
