Media servers to download on pc to run on ps3?
What you need is a UPnP server. Windows Media Player version 11 and up is supposed to do it.
If you don't like Microsoft products, and who could blame you for that, a good server for windows is called Vuze. Vuze is actually more of a torrent browser system, but you can also set up part of your pc directory to be broadcast UPnP over your LAN, and you don't have to sign up with Vuze to do it (I like vuze but I won't sign up).
And if you use linux, which everyone should, the best UPnP streamer is called Mediatomb. It allows you to designate any part or multiple parts of your directory tree to be browseable from your ps3. So you can make your video folder stream, then go to your ps3, and navigate through it and view any video or copy it over.
