Linux swap partition size for laptop?
I really want to install Fedora Core 6 on my laptop with 768 MB of RAM (shared with video memory - variable from 8 MB to 128 MB). What should be the size of the swap partition? I will not run any SQL server or something only the use Linux for academic purposes. tnx!
As a general rule interchange should be two times the memory installed in your computer, in this case you should have 1.5 GB of swap. when going to install Fedora on your computer, we recommend an exchange to file size that he believes is best for your machine. You can be better off just follow this recommendation. 768 MB of memory is a good size for a Linux system. If only running desktop applications I'd be surprised that the exchange is actually used in the system. In that case, you may want to go with a smaller swap partition and if you see that you are often using all memory and operating at the exchange then you can increase the size at that time by re-partition your hard drive.
