Building Web Server Yourself: Can my PC be a Web Server?
Builing home web server is getting easier and easier..
Basically web server needs the static IP address.
High speed internet connections provided by many internet service providers are offering dynamic IP address but actually they hardly change their users IP addresses.
In order to change their IP addresses, the customers must change or replace their high-speed modems.
If your internet service provider gives you a dynamic IP address, you still can run your web server with it.

Do you have proper operating system for web server?
Most of you must be using MS Windows XP, MS Windows Vista or MS Windows 2000 on your computer.
Actually these cannot be used on the web server environment. Because they do not have the functions and tools to setup and maintain the web server.
OS for the web server I recommend is MS Windows 2000 Server, MS Windows 2000 Advanced Server or MS Windows Server 2003.
These software are designed and developed to operate web server system.
MS Windows 2000 Server is the next generation OS of MS Windows NT. MS Windows 2000 Server looks exactly like MS Windows 2000 Professional and MS Windows Server 2003 looks exactly like MS Windows XP. MS Windows 2000 Advanced Server provides more reliable and powerful service than MS Windows 2000 Server.
I am using MS Windows 2000 Server to operate my website.
CPU
I recommend Pentium 4 or higher. But these days any PC with Pentium CPU can fit.
Memory
I recommend 500MB or higher. But these days any PC can fit.
Web Server Software
If you MS Windows OS, you can use IIS (Internet Information Server) installed in the OS.
With IIS, you can just create HTML files and locate in the appropriate directory. Or use any web design tool like MS Frontpage or Dreamweaver.
I recommend to use IIS. But if you are experienced programmer and your program can develop web application, you can use the program as web server software instead of IIS.
