file server resource manager
Okay...got the OS happening on the new MB, but...?

...now I am not sure what to do to get things rolling. I need to reconfigure BIOS acc. to my manual...and that is all it says. To do that, I need to go to MB website and get a file...and open it. But to do that...I need to get on the internet on my new pieced together computer...and whenever I try to set up the new connection wizard, I get an error message..Remote Access Server Manager
is in a bad mood, or something. Can anyone point me to a resource to walk me through these steps...step by step? I can open up XP...and various documents...and am staying in safe mode....thanks !!

You should not need software to access and set up your bios. When you first boot, there should be a message to press Esc, or a function key to "Enter Setup" or "Enter Bios".

If you do need to download a file on a PC that will not access the web, use the computer that you are on right now to download the file. Then copy it to a floppy disk or CD, and use the floppy/CD to setup on the new machine. Or, if the machine you are using now is also at the same location as the PC that will not access the web you can network them together and send files that way. Just because you cannot get on the internet, does not mean you cannot access a PC network. That is or course, unless your network adapter is not working, but you didn't mention that as being a factor. My guess is that you don't need to modify your bios to get online unless you simply need to enable a onboard modem of lan connector. These are usually enabled by default. I would guess that the reason you are not getting online is that you need to configure your internet connection on the new PC and tell the operating system how it will be communicating over the internet. You need to set up a modem, or tell it to connect through the lan by using "Network Connection Wizard" or "Phone Modem Options" in your Control Panel.

Good luck.
