I'm having very strange networking problems on my computer at work - any guesses? (see details for more info)

Here's what's going on. IE6 will connect to the internet, IE7 will not. No version of Firefox connects. Outlook and Thunderbird can't find the fail server. Windows Media Player can play online radio stations. Window's Automatic Update and internet time synch work. Built in update features in programs like Acrobat Reader and Flash Player don't connect. Windows Messenger won't connect. Weatherbug and similar weather programs don't connect. However, you can ping (it seems) any IP address you want, like the mail servers and websites. The network adapter is an Intel PRO/100 VE, and it's built in. This computer has XP home, which I wonder if that is part of the problem. I realize more details about the network would be helpful, but I thought I'd try this.

Try windows XP Professional. Home is not designed for Network.
