2008 server r2 update

Why won't my computer install this damn update!?

The full update is called Installing Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows server 2008 , Windows 7, and Windows server 2008 R2 (KB953297) (update 2 of 5)... and every time I try to install it, it fails! This is driving me up a damn wall. I haven't been able to do it for probably 4months, I've tried going to the Microsoft website to do it, I've sent error reports which seem to be pointless b/c it's not like I get any feedback from it... I've done virus scans a number of times I can't figure this stupid thing out and I'm sick of looking at this yellow shield in the corner of my screen telling me updates are ready to be installed but then they won't F@#$ING INSTALL!! WHY?

This is Microsoft's answer to the problem. There are various things to try here. I hope it works for you. That little shield does get annoying.
