Would it be safe to have people subscribe to an RSS feed with something like ?username=var1&password=var2?
sending authentication credentials in a query string seems to be the only solution I see right now. Does anyone know if aggregators can send POST information to the server?

Never a good idea. Are you trying to show content based on credentials or are you trying to track who's subscribing?
